Charles P. Schmidt is Professor and Coordinator of Graduate Studies in Music Education at Indiana University, Bloomington. He received a Ph.D from Indiana University, the M.M. from the Eastman School of Music, and the B.M.E. degree from Florida State University. He is a native of Rochester, NY and taught instrumental music in the public schools of New York State. He has published more than 35 refereed research articles and has served as research director for over 25 dissertations. He is also a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Research in Music Education and the Journal of Band Research and serves as a reviewer for the Suncoast Music Education Research Symposium. He has served as a reviewer for Psychology of Music and the Southeastern Journal of Music Education, and the Indiana University Press. Professor Schmidt's research interests focus on the psychology of music, instrumental music, and individual music instruction.
